WayForward have expressed interest in developing a new Metroid title according to the company’s tweet. Yes that’s how sometimes the news rolls around here, tweets end up being more fun than press releases.
WayForward’s response to a fan suggesting they should make a Metroid title.
So would we! Someone needs to start a petition! (Because petitions are always super effective!)
WarForward Technologies have had trouble in the past with horrible useless apps like Ping Pals for the Nintendo DS but have since grown into a fine developer of old school 2D titles. Personally the first title that caught my eye was Contra 4, the series had been suffering for a while but WayForward managed to create the best Contra since Hard Corps on the MegaDrive/Genesis back in 1994.
Other titles by WayForward include A Boy and His Blog, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, a non suck Thor title for the DS and the recent Double Dragon Neon. I believe the title that everyone loves them for most is Shantae for the GameBoy Colour which is a criminally overlooked title that even I missed out the first time. Don’t worry I now own it and it’s DSi sequel so I feel much better as a person.
Aliens: Infestation is the most relevant title to this post because that’s the title that has drawn comparisons to the Metroid series, many have even recommended the title as an alternative to a 2D Metroid title until Nintendo decides to acknowledge Metroid even exists. Nintendo pretty much ignored the 25th anniversary of Metroid and yes I’m putting all the blame on Metroid Other M. As a die hard Metroid fan I will never forgive them for what they did with Other M.
So there you have it, WayForward would love to make a new Metroid title and given their history I wouldn’t be too worried if Nintendo let them have a shot at the series. I’d rather Nintendo make the game themselves and it’s been long overdue since 2004′s fantastic Metroid Zero Mission but a WayForward developed Metroid title would be the next best thing.
