XCOM: Enemy Unkown, the award winning strategy title, has been released for iOS devices.
2K, 2K China and Firaxis Games announced today that the Game of the Year award-winning strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown is now available for certain iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. The mobile version brings the full force of an alien invasion to handheld devices.
The iOS version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown makes use of the touch controls to allow players to build a fully operational base, research technology and engage in combat on the move, anytime, anywhere.
Christoph Hartmann, president of 2k, acknowledged the challenge of taking a game the scale of XCOM: Enemy Unkown to the small screen. Hartmann says they are “please with the success of XCOM” and expect that to continue on a new platform.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOShas been optimised for iOS with the lead designer, Jake Solomon, saying that “turn-based strategy games are a natural fit for a touch interface”. The iOS optimisation includes GameCenter support as well as iCloud functionality so players can save their games across multiple devices. Head-to-head multiplayer will be included as a free update at a later date.
XCOM: Enemy Unknow was developed by Firaxis Games and was released to huge critical acclaim in October 2012. Players take the role of the commander of a secret, global military organisation tasked with defeating an alien invasion by researching alien technology and strategic and tactical combat.
XCOM: Enemy Unkown is available on iPad 2, 3, 4, mini and iPhone 4s, 5, and iPod touch 5th generation. It is available now for £13.99 from the AppStore.
