For such a great show, it’s strange that video games based on South Park have always tended to disappoint. You’d think that the humour, action-packed plots, and zany characters would make for a funny, exciting game, but so far, nothing has managed to fully capture the spirit of the show. Hopefully, that’s all going to change next year when Obsidian release South Park: The Stick of Truth.
This brand new trailer, released during the Spike VGAs, shows a little of the story, which involves a great war between men and elves, and the fabled Stick of Truth. Ordinarily, such a plot would make veteran RPG gamers roll their eyes, as it sounds a little standard and obvious. However, with Trey and Matt behind the production, this could be a fantasy game like no other. We’ve also got the talented folks at Obsidian to rely on, having previously made the excellent Fallout: New Vegas.
Although the trailer doesn’t give an exact release date, it does reveal some exclusive pre-order content: The “Good Times With Weapons” pack, which includes the Bulrog Chicken Attack, Cartman’s Sai weapons, and the Samurai costume. Could this finally be the title that redeems South Park in the eyes of gamers? Let’s hope so.
