Fortnite Will Be Epic’s First Unreal Engine 4 Game

Announced today at San Diego Comic-Con, Fortnite will be the first game to use Epic’s upcoming Unreal Engine 4. Targeted at next-gen consoles and PCs, Fortnite is a “post-apocalyptic class-based multiplayer strategy-action survival game that runs on a day-night cycle.” This means you’ll be scavenging and setting traps by day, then fending off monsters by night, hoping that your earlier planning gets you through.

Some may remember the grand claims of graphical power requirements necessary to run Unreal Engine 4, but the engine is expected to be scalable, so weaker PCs and even mobile devices have a chance to get in on the fun. Unfortunately, in this case, Fortnite will be PC exclusive, so those wishing for some Unreal action on their phones will have to wait for another title.

There’s no release date for the game yet, but we’ll be sure to bring you updates as and when they’re announced.
