Vita Price Drop In Japan

It’s been a while coming but Sony have dropped the price of the Vita, sadly only in Japan.

Sony’s struggling Vita (to put it nicely) is now set to retail for 19,980 yen which basically works out to £140. Oddly enough this price drops applies to both the standard Wi-Fi only model and the usually more expensive 3G model.

Price drops normally make consumers happy, whenever a price drop is applied one can expect sales to spike but in the case of the Vita I don’t think it will be enough. I understand that lowering the price makes the Vita look all the more tempting but the truth of the matter is that the Vita is in need of some killer software.

I’ve gone on record saying that as a piece of hardware the Vita is a very impressive device, considering everything that it’s capable of I actually think the Vita is too cheap. Software sells hardware so you could be giving away the Vita and it still wouldn’t matter since there’s not much to play on it.

It’s sad to see the Vita fall on it’s face like it has and by this point one has to wonder if it’s too little too late for Sony. I don’t like to write doom and gloom posts but I honestly don’t see a bright future for Sony’s Vita.
