Namco Bandai have released some brand new footage of the upcoming SoulCalibur II HD Online. Footage that someone like me, a long time fan of the series, is going to carefully analyse to make sure that nothing is out of place with this HD remaster. Let’s be honest here, 2008′s SoulCalibur XBLA port wasn’t very good and I’m hoping SoulCalibur II HD Online fares up better.
In the trailer we see long time villain of the series Knightmare take on fan favourite, the tanegashima dodging (or not so much) Mitsurugi. Instantly we can see the extra clarity that the upgraded resolution brings forth alongside some subtle changes such as new fonts for the subtitles and match timer. Beyond that it SEEMS to be a faithful enough port of SoulCalibur II judging by the video.
We’re still not seeing any sign of a Wii U port which is a shame, one of the game’s selling points back in the day was the inclusion of Link from the Legend of Zelda as a special guest character. You’d think a Wii U version of SoulCalibur II HD Online would be a given considering Namco is DEVELOPING the next Smash Bros game FOR Nintendo but alas we live in a strange world.
If you’d like to see a Wii U port happen then Namco has gone on record suggesting that you should direct your requests to series producer Hoshino over on his twitter account. Be nice and go easy on him guys.
SoulCalibur II is seen by many as the peak of the series, I personally prefer SoulCalibur and SoulCalibur V myself but I won’t deny that SoulCalibur II is fine entry in the series. If you have even the slightest interest in fighting games then be sure to pick this one up when it arrives later this year for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The soul STILL burns and I will see you all online
