The latest entry in the long running Ridge Racer series has been revealed but it’s not what you think it may be. Don’t worry, this isn’t the moment where I tell you it’s some rubbish mobile game, it’s something far more interesting all together. Ridge Racer is going free to play, I don’t think anyone saw that one coming.
Ridge Racer Driftopia is developed by Bugbear Entertainment whose previous works include the somewhat underrated FlatOut series. They’ve already worked on Ridge Racer before with last year’s Ridge Racer Unbounded, again slightly underrated.
At NAMCO BANDAI Games we are committed to embracing new business models alongside the still vital traditional retail sector,” said Olivier Comte, Senior Vice President, NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe. “Free-to-play is playing an increasingly important role, so it’s very exciting to be bringing one of our most successful franchises to the free-to-play space for everyone to enjoy.
Not much is known about Ridge Racer Driftopia other than it’s a free to play title, I wouldn’t even be able to tell you if it’s an all new title or something based off the Ridge Racer Unbounded framework. What I can tell you is that Bugbear’s main project is an untitled racing game so I wouldn’t expect Driftopia to be all that different from Unbounded.
Hopefully Driftopia will not be the utter disaster that was Ridge Racer on the Vita, I trust Bugbear entertainment more than Cellius.
