Good news everyone, NiGHTS is no longer broken thanks to a new control patch Sega has issued out. Whilst the quality of the NiGHTS ports on XBLA and PSN was very good it appeared that there was something wrong with the controls, something about them just didn’t seem to respond to how I wanted it to. Everything has been made clear now as the patch released basically confirms that yeah, it was busted the first time time.
Sega posted the following on it’s blog.
Attention NiGHTS into dreams… fans! We’ve released a patch for the game on XBLA and PSN with two very important updates. First, we’ve adjusted the controls to allow analog input in 24 directions, which will give you greater control. Second, we’ve changed the drill-dash speed so it aligns with the Saturn version of the game.
Make sure you get the update, and keep enjoying the game!
At this point recommending NiGHTS is pretty easy, it’s considered to be one of the better games on the Sega Saturn though it’s likely to please some as well as annoy others. It seems with NiGHTS you either really like it and you seriously don’t see what the fuss is about. I don’t have an opinion myself, I never played much of the original but will be looking to do so now that I know the controls have been fixed.
