Lara Croft Guardian of Light has now arrived on Core Online which is a site that allows games to be played on via your browser. Wait hold on a minute, I’m still getting used to the fact you can play a game like Grand Theft Auto III on a phone but now you can play them on your browser?
I’m learning just as much as you are by doing this story but yes it appears that thanks to Core Online titles like Hitman Blood Money and Mini Ninja’s are playable on a simple browser. I guess the days of having a big console under the TV will die out in future, instead you’ll simply buy a digital copy of a game and play it on any device that’s compatible. This isn’t a joke, seriously it’s only a matter of time before even a mere calculator can run Crysis.
“This is a great game for CORE®ONLINE, the gameplay is the perfect mix of pick-up-and-play and challenging single player action. It’s exciting for Lara Croft to join Agent 47 on CORE®ONLINE and we look forward to more guests in the near future.” said David Guldbrandsen, General Manager of Hapti.co, Square Enix’s new studio in Copenhagen focusing on browser games.
Originally launched in 2010, the critically acclaimed LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT tells the story of Lara Croft and Totec, a 2,000 year old Mayan Warrior, who work together to stop the evil spirit Xolotl and retrieve the Mirror of Smoke.
LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT on CORE®ONLINE is made available via a combination of Google and Square Enix’s proprietary technology, which allows for support of Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. And with support for Google’s Native Client on Chrome, the game now becomes available to Mac users.
Titles currently available on CORE®ONLINE include HITMAN: BLOOD MONEYand MINI NINJAS. Also under development for CORE®ONLINE is TOMB RAIDER: UNDERWORLD, and GYROMANCER, a unique puzzle RPG. Further titles from the Square Enix catalogue are intended to be made available soon.
Damn even Tomb Raider: Underworld is making it’s way to the browser and that is a graphically intense title, I’m actually rather taken back by all of this. Any one who is interested in trying out Core Online can do so by visiting their website. It’s free to play meaning it’s ad supported but you can choose to purchase the full game to get rid of those ads, at the very least it’s worth a look.
