Research compiled by the British Film Institute (BFI) says that 3D films only account for a fifth of box office revenue in 2011 compared to a quarter in 2009-2010 in the UK.
The research also showed that the average cinema made £32,000 from 3D films in 2011 but in the year 2011 this slumped to just £16,000
Could this have an effect on the 3D gaming Market? Playstation and Sony was very quite at this years E3 on the 3D front. For the past 2 years Sony’s E3 presentation as been heavy on 3D and this year 2012 there was none.
We do have to take into account that we have now entered a global recession since 2010 and people are just not spending money on going out.
And, of course, there is the additional problem that some people feel unwell when watching in this format…
“Around 10 per cent of the UK population has poor binocular vision, which means it is difficult for them to see 3D effects in movies and video games. Instead, they see a blurry image, and will suffer headaches, eye strain and even nausea as a result.”
