Even if it wasn’t a slow news day, I would still be posting this latest Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer. It’s a PlayStation Vita and 3DS title that’s only two months away and yet we’ve seen next to nothing on it. It’s a damn shame too because the game certainly sounds promising.
Back in 2008 not long after the completion of Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, several Retro Studios employees left the company to form Armature Studio. This included game director Mark Pacini, art director Todd Keller, and principal technology engineer Jack Matthews. Since then they’ve not done much beyond a Vita port of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection so Batman Arkham Origins might as well be considered their first title.
Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate takes place after the console version of Batman Arkham Origins so we’re not dealing with all rubbish downgraded ports but instead something designed exclusively for the Vita and 3DS. The game as you can see in the trailer adopts a 2.5D approach and appears to keep much of what we loved in the previous Batman titles.
To cut a long story short, imagine several of the Metroid Prime leads developing a 2.5D “Metroidvania” Batman title. I’m not sure about you guys but this has me very excited, I secretly think it could possibly end up being better than the console version of Batman Arkham Origins.
Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available on the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The release date is October 25th which is the same day as the console version.
